I like your monochrome, the dim lighting works well with the muted colors. If it was centered a little more I think it would be perfect.
I love the lines in the monochrome study! The other shot would not quite be complementary because there's yellow in there too. There has to be just the two colors. I do however love the fact that the shot contains ALL the primary colors!
This is a can of bug spray. This is complementary scheme. The two colors are blue and redish-orange. 
This is a patio chair. This is the monochrome scheme.
